The Mining and Quarry Restoration Network (RMC) took part in the Mining and Minerals Hall (MMH) 2024, held at the Seville Conference and Exhibition Centre (FIBES) from 15 to 17 October, where it shared its progress and vision for mining restoration.
Javier De la Villa Albares, president of the RMC Network, together with its technical director, Beatriz Olmo, and accompanied by strategic partners, leading mining companies and consultancies, reinforced the association’s commitment to promoting sustainable and responsible practices in the mining sector. “We work to transfer knowledge to companies and help them restore land more efficiently and achieve better ecological outcomes,” said De la Villa, highlighting the RMC Network’s role as a driver of standards and criteria that promote responsible mining, the mining industry of the future.

Beatriz Olmo highlighted the “excellent reception” the Network received during the event, describing it as “a great opportunity to strengthen relationships among partners”, some of whom met in person for the first time. “A shift towards more responsible mining is becoming apparent, with restoration beginning to take on a more prominent role and becoming more firmly integrated into day-to-day operations,” Olmo said.
Over the three days of the event, the RMC Network’s stand was a key meeting point, attracting the interest of various public administrations, including representatives from Castilla-La Mancha, Andalusia, Extremadura and the Canary Islands, among others. This growing interest highlights the relevance of mining restoration in public policy and the commitment of institutions to sustainable mining.

“At the RMC Network, we would like to thank all our partners for their support, as well as the companies and institutions that have shown great interest in our initiatives during these days at MMH2024 in Seville. Events of this kind reinforce our conviction that we are the essential bridge between scientific knowledge and business practice, promoting progressive mining restoration and fostering collaboration among the sector’s key stakeholders,” De la Villa stressed after the event.
