The event, moderated by Beatriz Olmo Gilabert, Technical Director of the Mining and Quarry Restoration Network (RMC), also brought together representatives of collaborating organisations, sponsors, members of the organising committee and professionals from the sector.

The Generalitat Valenciana has taken a leading role in this project, supporting the congress as a Gold-category sponsor from its early organisational stages. The Regional Secretary for the Environment and Territory, Sabina Goretti Galindo, took part in the presentation of this initiative promoted by the Mining and Quarry Restoration Network (RMC) and supported by the Generalitat, which has been involved in the project since its early organisational stages.

During her speech, Galindo stressed that choosing Valencia as the venue for this pioneering event «is not a coincidence; it reflects a firm commitment, a track record of work and a vision for the future in which the Generalitat has chosen to become involved in order to turn the city into the international capital of territorial sustainability».

She also underlined the Consell’s commitment to sustainable mining and effective ecological restoration, stating that «our regional mining policy is no longer limited to oversight, but today focuses on promoting sustainable mining and genuine and effective ecological restoration. We firmly believe in the dialogue promoted by this congress: the strategic alliance between cutting-edge science, corporate responsibility and administrative agility».

A venue committed to ecological recovery

This institutional commitment was a decisive factor in the Mining and Quarry Restoration Network (RMC), the organisation promoting the congress, choosing Valencia as the venue for the event. The city combines a strategic position in the Mediterranean arc with a well-established commitment to sustainability and is home to the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), one of Spain’s most prestigious academic institutions in engineering and applied sciences.

The UPV, which will serve as the academic venue for the congress, is also home to the Mining and Quarry Restoration Network Chair, which is promoting specialisation in mining restoration within the university environment.

«We are grateful for the involvement of the Generalitat Valenciana, the Universitat Politècnica de València and all the institutions that have supported this initiative from its early stages. Their support reflects a shared commitment to land management that integrates extractive activities with ecological recovery. All of them will participate in the congress as active contributors to the dialogue between science, business and public administration that CIREM aims to promote», said Javier de la Villa, President of the Mining and Quarry Restoration Network (RMC).

Congress preparations are progressing with great momentum. The deadline for submitting papers exceeded all expectations, both in terms of the number and quality of contributions received, confirming the growing interest among the scientific, technical and administrative sectors in this international meeting forum.

The mining sector in Spain

Spain has a long mining tradition and is home to some of Europe’s most innovative ecological restoration projects. The sector’s data reflect its economic and social importance: according to the 2024 Mining Statistics published by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), the sector generates a production value of €3.628 billion — representing year-on-year growth of 1.6% — and employs more than 30,000 people across 2,592 active mining operations.

The Valencian Region is also a benchmark in mining restoration, with internationally recognised projects that will be the focus of the technical visits organised as part of the congress. In mining, the region stands out for its production of aggregates, clay and marble limestone, which supply strategic sectors such as construction, road infrastructure and the ceramics industry, as well as providing raw materials used in numerous everyday products.

CIREM was created with the ambition of becoming the leading forum for mine and quarry restoration at both national and international level, bringing together science, public administration and the business sector. Its aim is to contribute to a mining industry that is increasingly committed to ecological restoration and territorial development, exploring how the sector can move towards models that are more closely aligned with nature and sustainability.

The Regional Secretary for the Environment and Territory highlights the Valencian Region’s commitment to becoming an international benchmark in territorial sustainability and ecological restoration The…

[150
172
post-4635","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-actualidad","tag-cirem
["GET
